These watches require daily winding of the watch Crown by the wearer for the watch to work. This action winds the MainSpring; this is a coiled strip of metal that is almost a foot in length. The MainSpring is tightly wound around a central shaft, the winding action builds up the tension it stores. As the spring unwinds, it releases energy to power the watch movement.
